The ICONS (ICfo Organization and Network of Students) Student Chapter was created by a group of motivated student in 2004 Officially recognized by OSA in 2005 and by SPIE in summer 2008, the ICONS Student Chapter is organized in such a way that facilitates participation at whatever level suitable for its members. In order to achieve broad participation, the Chapter secures recognition from ICFO for all active members via an official certificate at the end of each year. All efforts for the chapter are unpaid which gives everybody the opportunity to focus on action, good leadership and goal oriented projects, not on financial dependencies.

ORGANIZATION OF THE CHAPTER

Elective positions

Each fall, the general assembly appoints the four officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer) of the ICONS Student Chapter for a one year period by an open vote. One month before the General Meeting in fall, all members are encouraged to submit their candidature for the elective posts. Any of these members receiving the necessary majority of votes can be elected. It is strongly suggested that at least President and Vice-President change each year. Of all the members, the officers should be the ones working hardest for the chapter, setting the stage and environment for all other members to participate actively and excel.

Non-Elective positions

These tasks (Webmaster, Outreach Coordinator, Seminar Coordinator and IONS Coordinator) are set up in order to give as many people as possible the opportunity to participate in the chapter. Some might want to just see how to organize something small while others seek assistance in a big project. Experienced members having very little time can also take on one of these tasks in order to assist less experienced members. Typically, the positions are appointed to members by the officers and are held for one year.
